Downloading and Installing MiKTeX

Installing a basic system

To install a basic MiKTeX system, download and run the "Basic MiKTeX" installer: basic-miktex-2.4.2207.exe (~ 32 MB). MiKTeX has the ability to install missing packages automatically, i.e., this installer is suitable for computers connected to the Internet.

Installing the complete system

Follow these steps, if you want to install a complete system:

1. Be prepared to download more than 380 MB.
2. Read the article MiKTeX Installation Procedure (HTML, PDF).
3. Download the setup wizard.
4. Use the setup wizard to download required package files to your computer. Alternatively, you can download the MiKTeX distribution by hand from one of the many CTAN mirrors.
5. Use the setup wizard to install the downladed package files.

Getting updates

Use the update wizard (Start->MiKTeX->MiKTeX Update Wizard) to get the latest package updates.

Note: it is necessary to run the wizard a second time, if the wizard updates itself:

1. the first run updates the wizard
2. the second run updates remaining packages
