Simulation Models
 - Single Station

Use the Extend model for the single machine station (Single Machine.mox) in the Examples/Models and Methods folder. Use a mean interarrival time of 5 minutes and a mean service time of 4 minutes. Measure average number in the queue, average time in the queue and number produced in a 250 minute period.

a. Assume constant service and interarrival times. Use simulation to estimate the system measures.

b. Assume constant service time and exponential interarrival time distribution. Use simulation to estimate the system measures.

c. Assume exponential service time distribution and constant interarrival time. Use simulation to estimate the system measures.

d. Assume exponential service time and interarrival time distributions. Use simulation to estimate the system measures.

e. What observation can you make about the effects of statistical variability on the system measures?

f. Use queueing formulas to compute mean number in the queue and mean time in the queue for exponential service time and exponential interarrival time. Compare with the simulated results of part d. What observation can you make about the use of analytic formulas versus simulation to estimate these quantities?

g. Do part f, but use an average of the results of 10 runs for simulation estimates.

h. For case d plot a curve of average time in the queue as a function of mean service time as mean service time varies between 3 and 5 minutes. Use simulation to obtain these results. What observation can you make about the effects of the relative values of mean service time and mean arrival time on these quantities? Use an average of the results of 10 runs for simulation estimates.
